Hun-Chung Lee, Korea, 2016

Low table in glazed ceramic.

While this dynamic low table at first appears to be an outlier in Lee’s oeuvre, it is firmly within the historical Korean visual lexicon. This piece recalls jogakbo, an improvisational Korean patchwork technique in which fabric scraps are stitched together to create bojagi, wrapping clothes for use around the home. Lee references this everyday material in the low table made of glazed ceramic, with gilding instead of seams between each different “patch”.
