R 20th Century presents an exhibition of new sculptures and lighting by American artist and designer Jeff Zimmerman. Zimmerman’s work has been shown at various institutions and galleries such as the Brooklyn Museum of Art, the American Crafts Museum, Sean Kelly Gallery and Emmanuel Perrotin Gallery. This is Zimmerman’s first solo show with R 20th Century.

One of the most important glass artists working today, Zimmerman creates work that possesses a quiet intensity and evokes emotions that lie somewhere between the bizarre and beautiful, familiar yet disturbing. Many of his designs come from the exploration of the glass-blowing process of which the footprints of the experiment of pushing, pulling, dripping and spinning can often be seen in the final piece. Fascinated with abstract nature forms, Zimmerman infuses his biomorphic sculptural pieces with a balanced juxtaposition of fresh vibrant colors and invitingly tactile surfaces, creating vessels that communicate a range of aesthetic experiences. Zimmerman’s diverse oeuvre includes sculptural chandeliers and pendants, lighting environments, glass wall interiors as well as abstract vases and mirrors.
