Blue Heaven, Curated by Tony Ingrao

R & Company is pleased to announce Blue Heaven, an exhibition curated by Tony Ingrao, the principal of Ingrao Inc. This exhibition is part of R & Company’s Annual Guest Curator exhibition that invites an influencer in the design and architecture industry to transform the gallery space. Blue Heaven is on view September 27th through October 31st with an opening reception September 27th from 6:00pm until 8:00pm in which Mr. Ingrao will be present.

Principal of R & Company, Evan Snyderman states, “The annual guest curator exhibition gives us the opportunity to collaborate with our contemporaries and colleagues in the field of design and to give back to the community that supports us. We encourage the guest curator to play, and to explore ideas that might otherwise not be realized. I have admired the work of Tony Ingrao since the first time we met almost 15 years ago. As a designer, Tony has never been afraid to take risks and I have long admired his ability to meld the worlds of traditional interior design with that of the Pop movement.”

For this exhibition, the upstairs gallery space has been transformed into an immersive environment, painted from floor to ceiling in Yves Klein Blue. Ingrao has selected a range of bold works including Frank Gehry’s iconic sunken armchair made of corrugated cardboard, Wendell Castle’s large “cool blue” gel coated standing lamp and Gaetano Pesce’s dynamic 1970’s red sofa. Other notable designs include Gufram’s classic “Pratone” lounge chair in green polyurethane, Hugo Franca’s “Itapema” wooden chaise, and Oscar Niemeyer’s slick red “Marquesa” bench. Also on view are recent works from R & Company’s celebrated contemporary designers including The Haas Brothers, David Wiseman, Jeff Zimmerman and Thaddeus Wolfe.

Tony Ingrao’s inspiration for Blue Heaven was to create a celebration of the perfect imperfections, the divine balance between form and function, and all of the silver-lined details that make up a true masterpiece. Ingrao states “Bold forms and remarkable craftsmanship is the focus in this study, set in a cool blue field, inspired by Yves Klein. Each of the collected pieces exhibit their own distinctive, and arguably divine, silhouettes.”
