Design Miami/ Basel

14-19 June 2016

R & Company is pleased to announce its participation in Design Miami/ Basel 2016 with an ambitious group presentation of iconic historical works paired alongside exciting new contemporary designs. The gallery is a founding member of Design Miami/ Basel and has been participating in the fair since the first edition. This year R & Company features a curated installation of furniture and design objects.

A focus of the presentation showcases modern design with significant masterworks by Joaquim Tenreiro, Greta Magnusson Grossman, and Wendell Castle who have all been a part of the gallery’s roster for nearly two decades. Highlights at the fair include Tenreiro’s iconic handmade three-legged chair comprised of four different woods bonded and laminated together. Also on display is Grossman’s celebrated “ironing board” wooden coffee table and “Grasshopper” floor lamp in orange enameled metal. In addition, two rare important works by Wendell Castle are presented; a unique oak dining table made using his revolutionary stacked lamination technique alongside a one of a kind wood lamp, featured onstage in an episode of the classic American television show “To Tell the Truth” in which Castle appears, August 1966.

Coinciding with these historical pieces, the booth includes new works by contemporary designers. David Wiseman presents an architectural bronze mirror constructed in his signature collage pattern and a series of delicate cake tray sculptures made with hand blown glass, bronze and porcelain. The Haas Brothers exhibit their latest series of Accretions with new forms and innovative glazing techniques as well as a new group of Mini Beasts made out of bronze and Icelandic sheepskin. Together the works on view forward the gallery’s mission of preserving and educating collectors about important historical pieces, while offering contemporary works that encourage excitement about and interest in collectible design.
