Billy McLimore created exquisite model boats while incarcerated in the Kentucky State Correctional Institution. To build the boats, McLimore used handmade tools and found materials such as Popsicle and corn dog sticks, stick matches, tea-dyed bed sheets, plastic bottle caps and carved soap bars. His process represents recycling at its best. The details such as the nets, masts, ropes and furnished rooms reveal the artist's wonderful imagination and extraordinary focus. Creating these sculptural objects played a vital role in McLimore's rehabilitation process.
